The Beginning

It all started with questions. My husband and I accepted Jesus into our lives, were married, and embraced the pregnancy of our first child in 2006.

Within that first year of our life together we focused on getting to know God as individuals, as a couple and as parents. We were hungry. We joined a local church and were dedicated. We quickly became leaders in the church, youth group leaders, Sunday school teachers and bible study teachers.

We were deeply involved.

Eventually we started to ask why. Why do we attend church on Sunday mornings at 11AM? Why do Christians celebrate Halloween, Christmas, Easter and every other pagan holiday?

So we devoted ourselves to prayer and started seeking truth. What we discovered was life changing. We knew we had a choice to make.

What were we to do with the information God had blessed us with?

Were we to ignore the Satanism and pretend everything was Okay?

Sure, some people do, actually many people do. But we couldn’t. We asked questions, the Lord answered, and we were then accountable for our actions thereafter.

So we stopped. We stopped celebrating everything traditionally celebrated by the average American. Easter, Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Valentines Day, Mothers Day, Fathers Day and for a while even birthdays.

Then we studied more to see what celebrations were acceptable according to the word of God. Keep in mind this did not just happen overnight. It took years to muster up the strength to completely withdraw and share our beliefs with our church and our families. They thought we were nuts and had a hard time understanding.

But the more we asked and obeyed, the more questions the Lord would give us. Fast forward a bit and we now celebrate the feasts and festivals celebrated in the Bible, Purim, Passover, Sukkot, and Hanukkah.

It’s so refreshing and feels so simple and clean. Sort of like it’s the way the Lord intended things to be.

Next topic was food and alongside that was medicine.

My husband had a car accident shortly before we married and became addicted to prescription medication. All was legally prescribed and taken but he hated feeling out of control not to mention the side effects.

Could the Lord also have an answer for this area in our lives? We started researching using food as medicine.

Could we use food to heal our bodies?

A friend of ours recommended a book called The Makers Diet by Jordan Ruben. It changed our entire way of thinking about our food. Along with that book and a few documentaries we completely changed our diet.

Again this was not done overnight, it took years to educate and understand what our bodies needed to nourish and heal. But since 2012 we have been eating a completely GMO free, chemical free, and as close to organic and locally farmed diet as possible.
